What special software will I need?
In most cases, there is nothing to install and no complicated
setup. Our system utilizes Macromedia Flash, which is most likely already
installed on your PC (if not, the download is simple and quick).
If you already have Flash on your PC, no software is needed to send
or receive video. Our service uses your
existing web browser and plugins to deliver content. Yes, it's really
that simple!
What are the minimum system requirements?
266Mhz Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon processor, 64MB
RAM, Windows 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000 or XP. Mac OS X users can view
feeds but cannot playback stored video clips at the current time. We
recommend a broadband internet connection (DSL or Cable). Microphone
and Speakers, or a Headset required for voice chat.
Can I record and store video clips?
Yes! You can easily record a temporary video clip,
up to five minutes in length, while you watch your security camera.
After the clip has been recorded, you will be prompted to download
it to your personal computer (a simple FLV
Player download needed; link to download is provided after recording
for the first time). The video clip will then be deleted (whether or
not you choose to download it) so that you will have the option to
record another video clip. Video clip playback is currently available
for Windows users only.
Can I use my existing camera with your system?
Yes! Our system works with most webcams!
Just plug your camera into your computer and log in to your account,
and you're ready to go! No special drivers or software needed.
Can my friends and family view my camera?
Yes! You have total control over who has access to
your account and when. You can set up guest accounts for friends and
family, each with 24-hour access. Up to three guests can login at the
same time by entering the usernames and passwords that you create for
them. You can delete guest accounts at any time or you can simply let
them expire at the end of the 24 hour period.
Do my friends and family need their own iFox Cam account to view
my camera or participate in my video chat session?
No. Your friends and family members only need a guest
login to your account. You can create a guest login by signing into
your account and entering a username and password for each guest (up
to three guests can login at the same time) that you would like to
view your camera or participate in your chat session. Guest logins
are valid for 24 hours after they are created.
Do my friends and family need to have a webcam connected to their
computer in order to be seen during the video chat session?
Yes. Each guest will need a webcam connected
to their computer in order for the video to be broadcast so that others
participating in the chat session can view it. If a guest does
not have a webcam, he/she can still participate in your chat session
and will be able to see the video broadcasts of the other participants
but his/her video will not be displayed. To purchase additional webcams
for your friends and family, visit our camera
store.
Do my friends and family need to have a headset to participate
in voice chat?
A headset is recommended for the best voice
chat experience. A microphone and speakers will also work,
but you may experience an echo effect. If your guests only
have speakers and you have a microphone or headset, they
will be able to hear you, but they will have to use the text
chat to communicate with you.
How secure is my video?
Your camera is being broadcast securely and can be
accessed only through your private login. Guests can see your camera
only when you grant them access
by setting up a guest account. Guest accounts expire 24 hours after being created
but you do have the option of deleting them sooner if you desire.
I cannot install software on my computer at work. Can I still use
your service?
Yes. Our system requires no software to send or receive
video. All you need is an internet connection, a browser withy Flash,
and an account with us
to view your home camera from work.
I have AOL dialup. Can I use your service?
Yes, but we recommend a high-speed internet connection
(DSL or Cable Modem). You can view your camera remotely using a dialup
modem, but you may not experience true streaming video.
Can more than one person watch at the same time without slowing
down my connection?
Yes! You can have up to 3 guests viewing your camera
at the same time without any strain on your camera's internet connection.
Guests actually view your camera through our server, so you can even
surf the internet while your camera is on!
Do I get to keep the free basic webcam?
Yes! If you accept our offer for a free* basic webcam
and 30 days of service, the webcam is yours to keep, no matter what
you decide. This is our gift to you for trying the iFox Cam service.
*Shipping, handling and processing fee applies.
